Saturday's dinner function, ICA D&D.

8 VIP tables but they don't give me the very VIP feeling.
Good staffing, easy customer, excellent station supervisor, Shaik. "Nothing can cock up in my team", i tell myself. True enough, nothing cock up everything is smooth sailing. The only cock up i feel is myself.. BIG TIME!!

Definition of NINJA : People who pop smoke and disappear.

From the briefing i knew that there is a 20mins stoppage. (20min is a very common time frame). So during the stoppage i decided to make a trip to office to chat with coordinator, Siew Siew. Quite a long chat that i almost forget the time. At a point of time, i even say "they might be looking for me now". This eyebrow-twitching feeling came true. By the time i got back to ballroom. I saw everybody preparing the plates for next course. When i ask them whether stoppage is ok? The reply is "Stoppage, long ago over liao~ Even the next course have been served long ago! WAH!! WTH!! The ballroom almost collapsed on me! Imagine managers, team mates asking where am i for the past 1 course.

I just told Shaik i went toilet in the end, not knowing the stoppage so fast. Apologized to everyone in my team. Thanks god, no manager is aware of this (i hope). So for the next 4 course, i have seen the most hardworking Chee Chin in my life. Pick up, Serve, Clear, Stand By by the side. Never a moment hiding at back area or walking around. Although i managed to get a bite of the roasted chicken (drum stick!!)

Overtime:
D&D means OT till 3plus 4 am. Guest leave before 12mn means 12mn staffs can do alot of clearing, also means OT staffs less things to do. I'M WRONG!!

Sundays wedding has quite a interesting setup. With dance floor set in the middle of ballroom, sofa sets placed by the side of it. Lastly with a piano placed in the middle. Took us abit of time to get this done. Next feat is the clearing out for 20 sets of tables & chairs and adding in of 60+ extension for the remaining tables!

Each guy carried about 3-4 extension. Lucky the managers decided to fold up their sleeves and get sweaty with us. At first is Kok Ching and Adrian, then come Amos and WILLIAM. Yes, the caps is not a typo error. William is our director of BQT. This moment bring back some old time feeling. Especially precious, as so far i only get to see them help out < 10times.

Sunday, Wedding Dinner 600pax.
Bride is the Head of IT Department of Republic Poly
Was persuaded to work as regular : newcomer ratio not even. So decided to work till dessert is served. Chew Hung still told me Hermen (regular VIP server) will be working hence my chance of being VIP server is low. To my surprise when i submit my voucher, i saw my name on the first row, next to the lettering, "VIP". I got a bad feeling i will be marching down the red carpet again~ NO~~~

Fan Fare this time isn't that bad. Asked one of the staff to do a posture analysis on my walk in and feedback to me. Unless, anyone really focus on my hands, they cant really tell they are trembling.. haha!

Female server with me for the day initially is Cynthia. Siew Siew still say she's good looking, can work. Lian Yin also say she is good.. Too bad, not my type. In the end, i got Kaili, im not very particular about which lady i work with, because at the first place we do not have the priviledge to choose. Anyway, had long wanted to work with Kai Li, since i also know her sister, Kai Chi. But no chance as she is quiet and got the not-responsive-look if you initiate a chat with her. So this VIP event turn out to be a ice breaking session.

This is my 2nd time serving VIP while for KL is first time. I thought there will be cock up.. Lucky, the table guests are busy with their program. Bride & Groom always not around, same for their siblings and friends on the table. Hence most of the time i only do portioning and left the 20pax of food service to KL. Muahaha!! *evil grin Ok.. I'm not that bad la. I helped out in the clearing. haha!!

Despite of the ninja incident on the previous event, i still can't resist the temptation to go office and chat with Siew Siew again! haha. This time i really make sure that its 20mins stoppage!

I found a few good points of being Wedding VIP server

1. Manager always around to assist you
2. Cut queue when pick up
3. Guests usually not on table
4. Lesser obstacles to access the warmer for food (if you know what i mean)
5. Usually get better staffs (however to LY or CH, its not always the case)

Overall a simple wedding dinner. In the end the dessert is out by 11pm (that's very late), sign out at 1130pm. Father cant fetch me home.. Argh~

Rant on Starhub TV subscription

Suppose to be a happy day. Met Foo Wen, Ben, Chew Hung and Lian Yin for breakfast at MacDonald. Seldom eat at MacDonald not to mention breakfast at there. Everything was nice, chatting all the time.

Reaching Expo, i even sneak into the hall together with the staffs even thou its only 10am, whereas the expo starts at 11am. So i was walking around getting ready to be the first few customers for Starhub..

Everything still smooth and steady.. Managed to queue even before the door opens, at around 1045am... Got my number and hang around looking at a few new phones. Tried out Sony Ericsson's X1 & C905. Also LG latest phone which i dont know what the model, 8MP camera PDA phone.. But Foo Wen claims that its abit lag.

Ok! Swee~ my number 3007!! Went to the counter. But was told that Digital Cable TV is already register under my house address!! WTF, i only have Max Online. Nvm the guy went to check again and told me that the previous owner didnt change his subscription address. WAH~~~~!!!!!

Initially i was so happy... First few customer sure get lucky dip, chance of getting a Samsung LCD TV!! Poof~ just like Naruto-disappearing-act, vanished liao~

Ok don't give up i get the previous owner's contact from my dad and even called up SH to check how long will it take to process the change of address. SH said 24hrs.. Still got chance, Sunday go down again. Even thou Saturday I'm working OT, i will still climb up from my bed and sneak into expo again! Now left the previous owner. Better call me back soon and change his address!! Fucking no effort you know! We have already moved in for sometime, still receiving his mails and now this stupid issue!! argh~


Updated 10mins after post
Have changed to the previous F#$K my previous home owner! to the new title (see above). The owner called me finally.. Owner is positively in trying to help me out to solve the problem. he gave Starhub a call to settle the issue.

Problem is previous owner had changed his billing address for the bills to be sent to his new address. However SH database doesn't seems to appear this way.. Ok, now i have to think of another day to travel down to settle Cable TV.

Now considering running this evening for the 20km so tomorrow i can settle everything then pin hope on Sunday whereas I'm heavily handicapped by a 20km run and OT from work on Saturday... HOW???

Worked only Thurs and sat evening sot this week. Maybe next week only Thurs.

Thursday
Slackest dinner function i worked so far. A standing buffet in the Ballroom. My area only consist of 2 cocktail table and 2 small sofa tables. Together with me is 3 ladies. so what is the purpose of me being there? haha!

Ended up walking around (as usual). Eventually walked to the BQT office to chat with coordinator Siew Siew.

Always buffet dinner means hell gate open. Especially most of the people working that day is regular.

All the buffet dishes in chill room.

OT that day is another slack one. Guest left at 1130, manager decided to release all staff at 1am. Managed to settle most of the OT stuffs before 1am. Go for 45mins supper then 15mins inspect the area.


Saturday
Mention in previous post, i suffered alot! Dinner itself is Western. In my team got 5 people, one of them is a 2nd day guy but worked here for quite sometime. His record was erased, hence treated as newcomer.

Lian Yin is in my team, keep saying me.. '2nd day newcomer also better then me', 'lazy, coffee cup don't want to set, some more still want to go by upon request' haha! Hand shaking have been a usual topic for them to disturb me..

I was so tired that even the manager asked what happen to me. Don't have the usual energy level they used to see. Nearing the end of function, Alan asked whether i wanted any main course while i saw him at the food steamer.

Food of the day

No much appetite, hence only ate one mouth from each meat, fish and chicken.

OT as usual only difference is this time we finally managed to visit the Male Toilet (upon request by Chew Hung and Lian Yin)

Detox Session

Woke up 1130am today, whereas i reach home at 430am. Now currently making my hourly visit to the Human Waste Disposal Center. The disposal i made every trip is equivalent to a small cup of toffee nut frappes from Starbucks (will explain why it have to be toffee nut frappe from Starbucks later) Got to be one of the food i ate wrong yesterday!

Let detective Cube look for the prime suspect! So lets look into what i ate/do yesterday

Morning
Ran in morning & ate a chocolate powergel after the run.
Only ate 4 pieces of Fried Beancurd for Lunch.
But still feel good till half of dinner function

Evening
Meet Chew Hung and Lian Yin for Tai Tai Session at Starbucks. Ordered toffee nut frappe latte (highly recommended by Lian Yin, -_-")
Ate dinner at cook house of Ritz. Now kind of think of it, one of the dishes sucks. Steam fish. Taste bitter, texture is too marshy! Well i was thinking 'Beggars are not Pickers" hence finished up the whole thing.

Super energetic for the first half of the function. Until like 9 plus 10, that's when my energy level started plunging like STI stock during Oct. I walk around like a first time 1 mth old pregnant lady, with the urge to puke every moment.

Conclusion:
The rotten fish i ate during dinner culprit for my stomach discomfort till today! Factor in the 4 hours for digestion and the 'nutrient' to run thought my body. Thinking of it now made my face turn green.

Toffee nut is the culprit which made me super active. Without a decent meal for lunch, pump in of the sugary drink, my body absorbed them like a dried up sponge. Causing a sudden surge in energy level follow by a plunge..

Updates on N82

Heard that Wilson got his new handphone, Samsung Omnia! Decided to come up with another post related to my handphone.

Tried the website out for one month and this is what i got:

Don't know why, i just like to record what i did, going to do and planned to do. This website really serve me well. With everything available in one glance. I know when I'm free the whole day, so i will try to slot more events that day. Now i feel more 'busy'. Sync-ing is just a button away especially my school and home is wi-fi enabled.

Calender application is available on almost all Nokia HP. But due to the small screen, ugly interface, i always avoided using it. Went back to hard copy calendar which doesn't serve as well because i don't carry it everywhere i go.

Another application i tried with my N82 is the office viewer. Currently added my Timetable and Pace Chart for running onto it. Now no need to open my bag to check which classroom in suppose to go (SIM lecture hall is not always fixed). Check and know my pace for the running set without Coach screaming at me. More to come.. still thinking what i can add into it.

Last application i got from the blog site. Shozu: Upload Photos & Video To Picasa, Flickr, Youtube, Ovi, Photobucket, Twitter & Many More

Enable us to upload pictures to your favorite online album. Picasa, Photobucket, Facebook etc... Check this out at www.shozu.com. Tried to upload picture to my blog once. Not that fantastic, as i like to upload multiple pictures to one post, instead shozu created a post for each picture. -_-
Anyway i prefer uploading pictures using USB cable as i can do my editing to them straight away. It is only useful if i run out of memory or no access to my USB cable/computer.

Downloaded eBuddy Mobile. Now no need to log into Internet to access the eBuddy online anymore, save the web application to surf net at the same time. Now you can see me in MSN even when I'm in class. When class is boring or break time, you can see me come chatting with you!

1.5K Swim Time Trial

Completed a 1.5K Swim Time Trial this Mon. Came to me as a surprise as i haven't been asking for the sets for swim. Anyway better then usual swim set, skipped about 500m worth of drills and spent about 30mins to do timing/rest.

From the graph, you can see how 'consistent' i am. Basically is a race of ego trying to swim beside Ben. haha!
*1st lap obviously is adrenaline rush, after seeing Wilson did his 25min TT.
*5-7th lap is where i close up the gap between Ben and Yong Herng.
*8-11th lap, chill out abit
*13th lap is either a timing mistake or a attempt for me to catch up with Ben. FAILED! Last burst of fire, on the last lap to get in par with him.

Some stances i tried for this TT / Comments on what i think during swim

1. Tried 3 stroke 1 breath, but still too taxing on my breathing. Not calm enough.
2. Kicked harder, tried kicking more from thigh than ankle. Not sure I'm consistent in this attempt
3. Stroked hard for the last 500m, with faster turnover (50m). Freaking painful trying to catch Ben!
4. Tried to even out my splits, my 100m too fast, 1:50min. Aiming to slow down to 2min but turned out to be 2:05min.
   

Some AARs

1. Elbow drops, been hearing it since Poly Yr 2
2. Funny jerking action under water for the last few laps
3. Left body doesn't rotate up as much as Right.
4. My feet not as flexible, doesn't flip much when kicking

Action to be taken

1. Kick more with fins and board.
2. Do more strokes drills on left arm. E.g. 2 left hand stroke follow by 1 right hand stroke (2L1R) and single hand w and w/o paddles
3. Focus to start pulling at optimal level, activating chest muscle
   
4. Not to throw arm, instead 'rotate'

Improvement hope to see

1. Splits go below 2:05, <2:03>
2. Left arm stronger, more efficient

Last In-House for the Month

Noticed that my Ritz post have been getting longer, more like a reporting style. Will look into how to shorten them for future post. Anyway announcing that i wouldn't be working very hard for the next 3 weeks. Why? Next week is the only week left for me to do a 20+km run (i know its abit late but better then never). Following will be IT show week from 27th to 30th, held that Singapore Expo. Week after next is the week to Standard Chartered Marathon, cant let my feet & legs to get swollen and tired prior to the race day.

Ok back to happenings this week

Fri: Boring day.. The staff list is only 1 piece of paper. No night event. No OT. But got food!! Worked under Grace~ Arrived at at 710+, she sign me in as 730!!! Forget to bring my locker keys hence made many wasted trips up and down before i report to her.. 10mins!! Argh~ Anyway what's half an hour when compare to a 100+ dollar worth voucher.. Whole day just stuck in M floor to do up so preparation stuffs for other rooms. Never do any service to guest, basically whole day just at the back area of M Floor. Under Grace, you will be tenderly looked after.. If you never see her for like 1-2hrs, you will receive a phone call and asked what we are doing.. since when you get to find managers who so concern for you..

Hightlight for Fri is the Welcome Dinner for these group of Indian-national guys who are Doctors!! Coming over to have some kind of conference. Their welcome dinner is superb! i never see so much food variety before.. From Chinese's Hainaness Chicken Rice to Malay's Satay.. Basically all the local food. These people have pretty bad time management. Dinner starts at 7, mostly staggered in around 8-9pm. Doesn't look good for the organisers.. Ignore them for now, more will come on Sat. When they left, hell break loose like Hellgate London, but this time is Ritz Carlton. Managed to get my camera out to take some pictures even thought they are busy with peeling prawns.

Most of the girls go for the ice cream... I was like.. Ice cream can be eaten anytime, but pouched prawns (not those skinny whinny ones which you get in stream boat restaurants)!! Event ends at 10plus, cleared everything by 12. Clocked 16.5hours

Sat: Start at 6am report to M9 (previously undertaken by snapper, pool side restaurant/bar). Under Da Jie again, plus i will be stuck here for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, serving the same GUESTS from yesterday!! Indian Music constantly playing for the whole day.. Breakfast starts from 8-9am Only 2 ang moh came in at 8am, follow by another 3 Indians, Rest came mainly 0830-0845. With the large variety of our breakfast, from juices to cereal, pastries to hot foods. If they eat like western style, will take them half an hour to complete trying all.

By the time is 9am and their conference starting at 915, some of them are still having their breakfast, one even came at 9! This really show how bad their time management is! Organisers even have to personally tell them off nicely to get them moving their butt from the seat.

Abit of turn over for M9 and I'm ready for the lunch. Lunch is much better, come, eat, go! Whole afternoon, I'm basically walking to and fro M9 and ballroom. Looking at the afternoon Chinese wedding dinner. After that wedding lunch, they have to turn over for wedding dinner.. shag~

My side, by 4pm im ready for my dinner. Walking around check what more needed to be done. Drag till 5pm, go for dinner.

Haha, I'm waiting for the dinner. Ignore the comments on the guests. Just talk about their liquor will do. Blue Label and Glendornach (vintage 33). Was quite tempted to try them out on the rock, which is what most of them are drinking with.

For the dinner, still pretty wide spread of variety! Chinese Chili Crab and Laksa station! The rest are local other races food, which i seldom lay my hands on.

OT: shag shag shag~ sian sian sian~ Dinner change to theatre setup for New Creation Church Service i think. All tables and extension out, all chairs in! 1200 pax! I was chair trolley party follow by chair cover party.. Only these 2 tasks enough to occupy me from 12 to 4am! nuff said

Yes the dragonfruit enzyme is officially opened on 14th! Not bad very sweet, taste like there is abit of alcohol presence

Next on the line is Grape enzyme. Expensive try-out, 1kg of grape worth $9, what you see above is only 2kg. My mom had already carried out another 2kg grape enzyme with slightly more inferior grape.

My first VIP event

2 days, 48 hours.. Another feat i completed after going back Ritz. Work for 42hours for Fri and Sat. Both start work at 6am..

Brief break down for the 2 days

6am: Prepare Coffee Station
8am-10am: Slacking

1pm: Prepare to TURNOVER!!!

Was mentally prepared when i booked for these 2 days. Heard that there will be many turnovers, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. But didn't really turn out that bad. I only involved in turnover from conference setup to dinner setup, 1 turnover better than 2!

Conference setup, means the whole ballroom arranged with slim table (rectangle in shape) usually 3 pax to 1 table, sometimes also can use round table. Estimated pax for the morning is about 350. So do the maths on how many slim tables are inside and required to be cleared for dinner.

Removing of table not a major issue, next is the entering of 60plus round tables + EXTENSIONS. Extension is the killer.. With only 4-6 guys in under ballroom, carrying them in is a big chore. Not to mention pushing in of chairs.

Floor manager for the morning is Grace. Didn't exchange any conversation, other than orders. But ok, nothing much in the morning. Khor working at M9, no cock stories from him.
Dinner is smooth sailing for me. All experience staffs, still got time to walk around, chit chat. Haha!

Highlight for the day is a comment i received form a new manager, Adrian. Argh! Really triggered my nerve for a moment, spoil them for a couple of hours. He saw me ironing organza the other day, commented i like to do girls job, keep asking that i wear skirt or pants. I thought he was joking. Before the dinner start for Fri, i was doing skirting for the side station (instructed by houseman, Alan) . Then this guy came to Kian Pong (captain) who is in front of me when I'm doing skirt, asked him why put me in OT list when i can only do girls job.. Like previously, keep asking whether is wear pants or skirt (for info, Ritz does not have skirts for female staffs also). I still though he was joking, laugh and went off to do another table.

After skirting a few other tables, i just don't feel right about his comments. Thinking that his jokes does not match his expression. Maybe i worked from morning. Blood pressure abit on the high side. Complained to a few staffs during dinner break. He is not well-like by many staffs hence quite a few just tell me to ignore him. Or sometimes end up, they doing the ranting.

Pleasant thing is, end of the function. He ask me to find him, because i was standing by the side like a bouncer looking at the guests dancing. Kanna disturbed a few sentence then he ask to go for my supper break till 1230, 10mins earlier then the others. Guess he is not that bad after all. Just another Khor-trying-hard-to-be. Next time when see him, try not to slack around can liao, but girl's job i will still do!! haha!

OT, we are let off at 3am for those working early morning next day. No need to arrange back to the slim table for conference, reuse the round tables. Pretty easy, another house man even told me that i can leave as early as 2plus.

Saturday is a painful day for me. By the time i lay on bed is already 4plus. Morning 6am, I'm the only guy reported on time, rest are 1hr later. Some more morning i do not need to do anything. So ended up sleeping in the silver store, with another 2 female staffs ironing organza next to me.

Turnover this time, isn't as tough as 2pm staffs are more than enough. So end up helping M9 to clear up the area. Shift all the tables, extension and broad tables back to ballroom.. Sweat till underwear wet wet man~ Finish at around 4, houseman, Wang Qi allowed us to take a 20mins break. So Kuswandi and i went to sleep in silver store. Until 445pm, we went to bath and straight to dinner break. haha!

Here comes the highlight for the day!
I was in the VIP group for the wedding dinner. Group mates are Chew Hung n Lian Yin. haha!! Most fortunate man for the whole night, even Andrew also envy! Both girls been in the line for 4 years! Super super lao jiao. Got them around, sky also wouldn't drop on me. haha!!

All the tears of joys soon become sweat of anxiety when i need to do Fan Fare as VIP. Means last to walk on the red carpet and serve the wedding couple their first course platter. Imagine everyones' focus and cue is on me! Hands by the time reach the couple are trembling so much that the food on the platter got slightly messed up.

3 years working in this line, never so panic before. Just like first day on work. Everything keep asking them what to do. Anyway that's all for my virgin VIP experience. I decided to pamper myself with some dishes from the dinner. Went to office to help myself.

OT is the most no effort kind. Break till 1315 then go back ballroom. only help out for 45mins.

What a weekend!

Had to announced that last weekend is the most hectic!
Here is the break down.

Fri: 3rd Company ORD Dinner.
Name of the event: OPS Freedom Eagle.
Venue: Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel.
Cocktail at 1830, Dinner at 1930 till 2300.
Bits of performance and game.
Majority are video montages will the OC illustrating the journey of their NS life.

Good to see old faces, thou the event is quite boring. Does not have the usually rowdy atmosphere. Maybe due to a female partner next to every guy. Surprise to see the guys, dressed up like for some wedding dinner EVEN pulling chairs for ladies!! When dishes are on the table, no one made the initiative to help themselves... Being a Banquet staff and a super eater, sitting down and waiting to get served (which i think the hotel is not planned to go table service) . I just cant help but to stand up and help 'myself', as in serve to my lady partner first.

Overall, the performance and video montage is good. But lack of the vibrant atmosphere on my table.. Most of all, im the ONLY Det Comd who came from my batch!

Alex is one of the guys in my Detachment while I'm going through my Det Comd tour in CDO. Alex is my demolition man, 2 years older than me, yet humble and treat me with respect. I also respect him alot! At first sight, you mind think he is a chao ah beng.. Trust me when you see him, he gives you the typical ah beng looks. But after knowing him, i understand 'Never Judge A Book By Its Cover'

The stay was short, but managed to have slightly more conversation compared to yesterday! Maybe because i didn't see them for almost half the year and Alex parents are around

Sat: CDO Officer Gathering
Venue: Suntec
Suppose to meet at 1800, but reach at 1830.

Attendance wasn't as expected. Only 8 turned up. Out of the 19 who got commissioned.
First stop was to Beppu Ramen. Known for their spicy ramen with chili spicy ratings from 1,2,4,6 and 8. I tried 4! Its torturing!! I feel as thou my stomach is burning when i left the shop.

Then we went Cafe Cartel, the one next to Ritz staff entrance to have our desert. Chosen a cheese cake, knowing that after 9pm, all cakes will be half price!! At there, we lost track of time while chatting from our current life to how rich our fellow batch army guys are, and their spending power. PS: Wilson, your friend spent $1300 on a small car part is insignificant in their story.

I can only sit and just listen to their conversation. Just when we are into this 'rich man' topic, a guy came to us. He is one of our batch boys, driving a BMW. After a few exchange sentence with him, we got to know he just pass his driving license!

Sun: Reiko's Birthday Celebration

Venue: Downtown East, NTUC Chalet.
Check in at 1430.

Reiko is my cousin. This don't know her which year birthday. My aunt and uncle decided to throw her a party at the chalet. Went down just to help my uncle with carrying of celebration stuffs. As my cousin is in primary school, all her friends and their activities are out of my league. Planned was to join them at Escape Theme Park, but quite bored of the rides there as most are all high and high-speed. Life threatening to someone fear of heights and high speed like ME!

In the end decided to rent a DVD, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull and spent my time in the chalet room . I know my life is boring~ But i got my siblings to accompany me as all of us don't like the rides! haha!

After the show, follow by cake cutting. Then Charlie Mike to my next gathering

Another relative, Edric 5 years old

Sun: 3rd Company BBQ
Venue: Aloha Chalet, the same bungalow which held Alex's ROM
Reached at 2100

Though of not going to this gathering, but since I'm invited and not knowing when i will see them again. I decided to make a short trip to the bungalow to check out.

After 2 days of ice-breaking, i managed to clique on quite well with them. No female partner. No formal ceremony. Final get to see the usual rowdy sight of 3rd Company! Hip hop music played on the background, different group of people busy with different things.

Highlight of that gathering was going through the days when i spent with them. Form training phase to ATEC. How CB our superior are. How unequal the treatment they received as compared to their 'sister' company, 4th Company....

Time flies when we enter such 'old days' topic. In the end stayed till 2345.

For the 3 days, every day i reached home at 0000. Main door closed and the lighting's all off when enter my house. Going to bath is a chore as i have to creep into my parents room, not to disturb them from their sleep.
