Saturday's dinner function, ICA D&D.
8 VIP tables but they don't give me the very VIP feeling.
Good staffing, easy customer, excellent station supervisor, Shaik. "Nothing can cock up in my team", i tell myself. True enough, nothing cock up everything is smooth sailing. The only cock up i feel is myself.. BIG TIME!!
Definition of NINJA : People who pop smoke and disappear.
From the briefing i knew that there is a 20mins stoppage. (20min is a very common time frame). So during the stoppage i decided to make a trip to office to chat with coordinator, Siew Siew. Quite a long chat that i almost forget the time. At a point of time, i even say "they might be looking for me now". This eyebrow-twitching feeling came true. By the time i got back to ballroom. I saw everybody preparing the plates for next course. When i ask them whether stoppage is ok? The reply is "Stoppage, long ago over liao~ Even the next course have been served long ago! WAH!! WTH!! The ballroom almost collapsed on me! Imagine managers, team mates asking where am i for the past 1 course.
I just told Shaik i went toilet in the end, not knowing the stoppage so fast. Apologized to everyone in my team. Thanks god, no manager is aware of this (i hope). So for the next 4 course, i have seen the most hardworking Chee Chin in my life. Pick up, Serve, Clear, Stand By by the side. Never a moment hiding at back area or walking around. Although i managed to get a bite of the roasted chicken (drum stick!!)
Overtime:
D&D means OT till 3plus 4 am. Guest leave before 12mn means 12mn staffs can do alot of clearing, also means OT staffs less things to do. I'M WRONG!!
Sundays wedding has quite a interesting setup. With dance floor set in the middle of ballroom, sofa sets placed by the side of it. Lastly with a piano placed in the middle. Took us abit of time to get this done. Next feat is the clearing out for 20 sets of tables & chairs and adding in of 60+ extension for the remaining tables!
Each guy carried about 3-4 extension. Lucky the managers decided to fold up their sleeves and get sweaty with us. At first is Kok Ching and Adrian, then come Amos and WILLIAM. Yes, the caps is not a typo error. William is our director of BQT. This moment bring back some old time feeling. Especially precious, as so far i only get to see them help out < 10times.

Sunday, Wedding Dinner 600pax.
Bride is the Head of IT Department of Republic Poly
Was persuaded to work as regular : newcomer ratio not even. So decided to work till dessert is served. Chew Hung still told me Hermen (regular VIP server) will be working hence my chance of being VIP server is low. To my surprise when i submit my voucher, i saw my name on the first row, next to the lettering, "VIP". I got a bad feeling i will be marching down the red carpet again~ NO~~~
Fan Fare this time isn't that bad. Asked one of the staff to do a posture analysis on my walk in and feedback to me. Unless, anyone really focus on my hands, they cant really tell they are trembling.. haha!
Female server with me for the day initially is Cynthia. Siew Siew still say she's good looking, can work. Lian Yin also say she is good.. Too bad, not my type. In the end, i got Kaili, im not very particular about which lady i work with, because at the first place we do not have the priviledge to choose. Anyway, had long wanted to work with Kai Li, since i also know her sister, Kai Chi. But no chance as she is quiet and got the not-responsive-look if you initiate a chat with her. So this VIP event turn out to be a ice breaking session.
This is my 2nd time serving VIP while for KL is first time. I thought there will be cock up.. Lucky, the table guests are busy with their program. Bride & Groom always not around, same for their siblings and friends on the table. Hence most of the time i only do portioning and left the 20pax of food service to KL. Muahaha!! *evil grin Ok.. I'm not that bad la. I helped out in the clearing. haha!!
Despite of the ninja incident on the previous event, i still can't resist the temptation to go office and chat with Siew Siew again! haha. This time i really make sure that its 20mins stoppage!
I found a few good points of being Wedding VIP server
- Manager always around to assist you
- Cut queue when pick up
- Guests usually not on table
- Lesser obstacles to access the warmer for food (if you know what i mean)
- Usually get better staffs (however to LY or CH, its not always the case)
