2. Yong Jin Kiat - 3:23:26 - Singapore
3. Michael Hua - 3:24:57 - Singapore

Never thought i would be in top 50. Anyway was very very happy for my result!!! Looking at the top placings timings which looks pretty plausible if train harder. But heard from seniors that a few local renowned runners didn't take part for this event.

****DELAYED TELECAST****

Over a month worth of training, finally all was over before sun rise, completing the 42.195km (bullshit) run which tortured me unmercifully last year. Got my chance of 'revenge', with more than 1hr of improvement and possible personal best for my marathon.

Some of the timings from my watch
Completion timing: 4'03'33
0-10km: 53'30
10-20km: 54'51
20-32km: 1'11'39*
32-42km: 1'03'31*
(* Tentative timing, actual timing will reflected when result is out)

Some different stances i did for this race:
  • Ran with 4hr pacers
  • Lesser rest time at hydration station
  • No mp3 play
Running with pacers (summing up the above 3 points)
Feeling of running with pacer is like doing a 40 lap track workout (20 x 2k set with 15-20s RI). Nothing but just focus on the guy in front of me. Sticking to their pace even thou i feel i can run faster. Requires abit of discipline in pacing.

Learnt a few things with the more experience marathon runner. Found that they don't carry hydration bottle filled with a concoction of powergel and hydration salt with water (goes pretty well actually).

Noticed that they only brought along powergel and only consume them at late 20k mark. Also the art of jogging and drinking at the same time, which I'm still pretty uncomfortable with. Either having my face splashed with water or sucking air instead of the water, which i fear for stitch at the later part of run. Such efficient drinking also mean less rest/ walking time for me, giving my legs lesser time to 'take a break' (they broke eventually)

Was so excited with the race start that i forgot to take out and switch on my mp3 player. Thinking that i will end up with a silent 42k run.. But i pull back my thoughts once i was pacing behind the pacers. The footsteps synchronized all the runners, running at a harmonized tempo, which kept me running at a decent pace, almost the same pace i did for passion run. But yet with a perceived lower intensity.

Overall the run with the pacer is pleasant and will consider it in my race plan for Standard Chartered 2009 which I'm aiming for sub 3'45, a more than 10mins improvement from my previous timing.

Shall end this post here.. Will continue my post race commentary on my thoughts throughout the run on another post. Stay Tuned.

Aloe Vera Fruit Enzyme

Ya my mom came up with a new recipe after making the family drank the same recipes for the past few months. Gotten this new recipe from her religious friend whom is a veteran in making fruit enzyme.

Aloe Vera
Shouldn't it be used as facial for my face~

Processing the aloe vera was not easy. Sitting right next to my mom, watching her chopping the fruits up is tedious, especially for aloe vera. Why? Chopping it up into chunky pieces, allowing the sticky sap to flow out before she can continue. The process takes about 30mins to get the sap drip out. Next, Skinning the aloe vera, pretty much easy. Only when comes to dicing them, the skinned aloe vera are 'running' about, making it hard to dice.

Finish Product

Total of 3 layers, consist of 2units of apple and aloe vera each, 1unit of kiwi and lemon each for every layers. Looking forward to taste this new fruit enzyme recipe.

Sundown Showdown!!! Race Plan

Last Year's Sundown Marathon Review

Timing, Goals and Run Plan
Not going to repeat the same humiliation i had last year for running a 5'15 for the marathon.

Aiming a min 4'30 this year with bonus of 4'00. Decided to follow a sundown pacer, Mr Seah who is a TP technician officer. He will be pacing for 4hrs, ambitious me is going to run after him until i deem to fast, will then be dropped by him and continue with my plan on 4'30. Anyway there is 4'30 pacers.

Decided to jog through the hilly part instead of walking (last year)

Some figures for running this 4hr marathon.
Distance: 42.195 (claimed)
Time: 4hrs (too optimistic)
Avg pace/km: 5min 41s (yet to include rest and walk)

Last Years Mistakes

  1. Underestimate the after-20km route.(scared liao)
  2. Not prepared for hill and distance. (still not that prepared)
  3. Not familiarize with route. (should be fine this time)
  4. Not enough rest from holiday (not an issue this year)
Hydration
There are 18 water points throughout the route. All evenly spread out with 2-3km gap. Time for me to jog/run from each point is about 15-20min, which is the ideal hydration time.

Alternating each water station will supply 100plus. So plan will be drinking full cup from 100plus station, rinse mouth at normal water station or consume powergel and hydration salt from my bottles.

Equipment
Swimming Jammers (wearing it)
Nike sleeveless Top (wearing it)
Hydration belt with bottle.
-Each half filled with hydration salt and powergel. Mp3 player at pouch
Running shoe and socks (wearing it) *D Tag already setup
Polar Watch, HRM (wearing it)
Number Tag, pin on belt.

Standard Chartered Bag
Sandals
Breakfast (bread+cheese+egg+ham) (in box)
Face towel
Wallet (in ziplock bag)
HP (in ziplock bag

Pre-Race
Will consume heavy breakfast, lunch and dinner. (aren't im doing that already..) Work backwards.

Race Flag off: 12mn
Dinner: 8pm
Lunch: 4pm !!!???
Breakfast: 12pm !!!???

Before leaving for site: 1030pm (COFFEE!!!)
Post-Dinner Snack: 8-9pm (oats with milo)
Nap?
Dinner: 5-6pm (Economic rice)
Afternoon Nap (3-5pm)
Lunch: 12-1pm (Yong Tau Hu)
Breakfast: 8am (Simple bread with milo and oat)

Post Race:
430am: Breakfast (prepared)

Auction Closed. You have a winner!

My second time trying to sell a item in eBay USA. A move which i seldom do to get rid of my unwanted stuffs, due to the high US exchange rate, listing charges on my ad and the unknown risk of the item selling lower than my reserve price. Finally, i entered once more into this free-for-all market. With abit of research beforehand, of course.

My item for sale Oakley Mag M Frame Heater Discontinued Model

Saw this beauty at togo marketplace, going for 188, negotiate it to 150. But I think the seller is able to lower it more. All blame me for being rush, not 'screening' my seller longer. Buy with the idea that i can switch lens with another Oakley M Frame Hybrid

The red lens is mesmerizing... almost on par with Oakley Romeo 1.0. Matching both the red lens and the mag frame will be flawless... Until i found out that the lens for both frame requires different lens.

Selling a M Frame with Heater lens is almost impossible in Singapore. Its the largest lens in Oakley M Frame series, wearing it on my face, as thou I'm wearing a eye mask. Went to eBay to check on its average selling price.

Turn out to be a shock to me that such a 'treasure' is actually sold to me at such low price. Indeed 'Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder'. Its another model no longer in production, similar fate as the Romeo 1.0.. A brand new pair can go easily over 300 USD in eBay, while used sets are closing more than 100USD, which conditions are far more inferior to mine current pair.

Started my auction with 100USD, almost the same as what i got in Singapore, as i dont wish to sell it off at a loss. Auciton was inactive for frst 3 days, less than 10 'watchers', no questions asked about it. Then i received a question asking me on the shipping to Thailand. To my surprise, sing post was quoting over SGD$40!! Whereas i placed USD$10 for standard shipping within US. Implication: Shipping to Thailand, $40+. USA which is further would cost more... Then i found out its $60+..

I thought to myself, 'another loss deal'. Even if i managed to close the deal at USD$100, i need to top up another SGD$50 for the shipping, means I'm selling at a loss of $50. Decided not to be bothered by this till the last day of auction.

Last day of auction.
The bid was at USD$109+, asked a friend of mine to push the bid up. He lost, but was planned for. The current highest bidder was a German. Seems more willing to pay for 'rare' Oakley shades.

last 30mins.
The bid hits USD$120, thank god maybe i can minimise the loss. Still the german bidder. Maybe can chop abit more in the shipping since he never ask me for quote. I checked on the shipping charges again and found out that i looked into the wrong service. Mixed up courier and air parcel, with a huge difference of $10-20 over the range of weight.

Closing bid
USD$142.50
Won by The Thai Guy

A lesson i had learnt:
Not the the last moment, we cant tell who is the winner. I keep thinking that the German guy will win. With their strong euros on his side, eye for collectors item. Thai guy on the other hand, also fall into my not-so-positive stereotyping.

走到桥头自然直. No point worrying so much from the start. Nature will takes its course.

Anyway my 7 days of auction saga has ended. Got to visit the sing post to get the shipping sorted out. Another hustle of going through eBay.

Deal Closed!

*** Disclaimer: Not for Faint-hearted!!! ***

Been 2 weeks since my last paper. Staying at home most of the time to, playing old school games, reading backlog business magazines and watching 100 over series of anime. Life have changed into an OTAKU, the word Wilson always like to call my little brother.

Out of boredom and upcoming marathon race, that vain-ness of mine that flows in my blood keep reminding me that i have to do something about my hairy legs. Not long, i found myself wiki-ing for sugaring recipe. For ladies who don't know whats sugaring, check GOOGLE. An alternative to waxing which is much easier to prepare at home. 4 units of sugar, 1 unit each for water and lemon juice. End of the day you will get a molted candy, which is edible but used for my legs.

My Work Station

Hotplate shove
Metal basin
Metal Mug
Metal Plate
Wooden Spatula and rod
Sugaring cloth from Bodyshop

It took me 3 days to get the consistency of the sugaring right. Apparently the recipe is not that accurate although alot of site says the same proportion. Almost ended up with 8 units of sugar to 1 unit each of lemon juice and water

I'm no pro in sugaring, amateur with only 3 DIY experience, but getting the hang of it. Never gone waxing before, hence not able to give a good comparison between waxing and sugaring. But its pros and cons can be googled easily from the net. Anyway here's a sample of my art piece.

OUCH!!!

The troublesome thing about DIY sugaring is the the preparation. It is when u are planning to sugar the portion on your calf and hamstring. Why? Blind Spot... Imagine doing stretching while sugaring. Or painting a ceiling but with your leg over your head, fearing the hot molten sugaring will drop on the floor anytime.

Shin and thigh is the easiest portion, right under my nose. However, still left a few 'survivors' under my hamstring, will sort them out later once i finish this post. Cant wait to run the Sundown with this 'new pair of legs'. hohoho

Ladies for more info on sugaring legs can find me. Men, don't be shy. Sharing is loving, especially when it comes to PAIN!!! muahahaha!!!

Mummy.... Its Over... | Exam Paper Review

YES!!! Finally, 1 year of studying have finally put them for the test literally.. Thou i did not really put in much effort for the revision. But i learnt my lessons now..

First paper, Principle of Accounting. 7th of April, 0845-1200
Some non-exam related issue to share.. Didn't bring watch and extra clothing which is advised by my sister. Simple reason to monitor the time and stay warm. Thinking that it will be a pussy to wear a extra jacket, i deliberately didn't bring the jacket. As for the watch, my reply is clocks will be hanging at the exam hall, so why bother?

I'M WRONG!! For the first time i almost thought i suffered hypothermia in Singapore! The whole exam hall is freezing cold as I'm sitting in the middle where all the air-cond are concentrated aiming at!!! So cold till the extent that I'm shivering at the last hour and my finger nails had turned PURPLE!!!!

For the watch, my eyes are so focused on the paper that when i try to see the clock which is like 20 metres away, I HAD BLURRED VISION! I cant tell the difference between 3pm or 4pm! Reluctantly taking out my mobile phone (which should be switched off), turned it on and see the time... Great~ I'm behind time...

Overall the paper was decently challenging, completed section B and C which are the section where each qns bear 20-30 marks! Attempt section A for the last, with 6 qns each 5marks. Suffered panic attack when i lost control of time, hence scribble thought the qns... In the end didn't complete 2 qns in section A.

Immediately after the paper, i straight away transit into Tampines Mall GV cinema watching X-men Original with my lil brother! What a way to celebrate my first paper.

Second paper, Management Mathematics. 12th of April, 1430-1730
Quite an irony. The paper i did the most badly in mock exam, i felt most confident this time. Attempted numerous past year papers and being more exam smart of targeting selected easy topics to answer.. The paper was quite a breeze, not getting a grade A but definitely a PASS... Felt pretty much confident for this paper. Left the hall early think around 10-15mins before collection of paper..
OH YA this time i remember bring my watch and jacket..

Third paper, Principle of Marketing. 13th of April, 1430-1730
No section, 8 questions, required to answer 4 questions. Question
This is the suckiest, most demoralizing paper i had.. Topics wasn't hard to attempt. But felt that revision wasn't thorough enough. Too occupied with the previous 2 calculation papers. Brain just cant seems to unload the previous data and upload new set within 24hrs, at least not for Marketing. Also my answering techniques sucks!!! Find that i didn't apply much marketing concepts on the answer booklet despite the fact that i wrote extra 3 pages form my mock exam.
Enough of sad story.

Fourth paper, Principle of Banking and Finance. 14th of April, 1430-1730
Similar scenario as PMKG. 1 day(24hrs) away form previous paper. Thankfully this paper, my sister and I spotted 4 topics which is enough to cover the whole exam paper. Focus all my effort on the 4 topics. But after a 3-hr exam, brain just seems to reluctant in cooperate in doing last min revision. Especially in the evening.

Best incident happened before the exam (in fact 30mins before exam). I noticed that i didn't bring my stationery!!! The morning i was so excited of going for the run training, that when packing the bag. I'm so preoccupied in stuffing in all my running gears; shoes, socks, HRM and running attire. EVERYTHING EXCEPT STATIONARY AND CALCULATOR!!!! Straight away i went out of expo, flag a cab, rush home and back, wasted $10 but back with my exam equipment.. IN fact enough time to go toilet and wait for paper to be distributed..

Paper is 2 sections where candidates are required to answer 4 qns, each 25marks. My approach is to answer 3 calculation qns (section B) and theory qns (section A) . Was pleased with my calculation but not the theory. The qns didn't ask for candidate to give in dept ans to a certain topic. In fact 1 qns can spread up to 5 sub-qns each asking different sub topics within the main chapter. Neither both style of setting the question benefit me, as im not fully prepared. Hopefully can get a decent pass for this paper.
Going through 3 consecutive papers to me is no joke.. Learnt my lesson that revision should start way ahead before Mock Exam.

Intensive Training Regime waiting for me!

SAA: Self Assigned Assignment

Its first of MAY! Other than its being a public holiday, 1 month after April Fool. Its the finish date of my 'assignment' I'm sure you have heard me saying it in my previous post, so what is it?

Actually is a 'bo liao' task to keep track of my daily expenses. Presenting to you my data

Monthly Allowance: $320
Transport: $68.86
Montly Bills: $212.50
Handphone bill + Cable TV and Maxonline (Shared) + Insurance of both Aviva and Manulife
Meals: $156.75
Breakfast: $25.70
Lunch: $80.90
Dinner: $50.15
Miscellaneous: $24.50
Haircuts, newspaper etc...
Leisure: $178.57
2x Outings and 1 Oakley shades

Was glad my my allowance was able to cover most of my necessities such as meals, transports, miscellaneous items and bills (Starhub bills). However still I'm over exceeding by $142.60!!! which is the amount of both my insurances... Need to reconsider the death/injury insurance ($40). The over exceeding amount has yet to include the amount i spent on leisure.. which is usually covered by my pay from Ritz, same for the insurances

At least now i know, how to benchmark my expenses.

Committed monthly expenses (bills) : $212.50
Required monthly expenses (necessities) : $250
Total : $460+

Aiming to push this figure below $450. Find that any further reduction from the meals will land me in the category of NO LIFE! Need to dig for another $130 to cover monthly basic expenses.

Will write up another post on my learning from this assignment.

Coming Soon

Have finished the last Local Revision. Exam papers will be lining up and start bombarding me next week!

7th May: Principle of Accounting
12th May: Management Mathematics
13th May: Principle of Marketing
14th May: Principle of Banking and Finance

Have been doing 'intensive' revision. 5hours stuck inside TP Library from 11am till 5+pm. Morning is used to warm my body up to study, while evening is personal time to do what i want.

Find that I CANT STUDY AT HOME! Temptation is everywhere!! Also i need a Air-condition environment to study. I know i sound pampered, but weather is really humid these few days!

Remember back in Poly, definition of study is attend all lectures and tutorials. When come to exam, just need to flip through the PPT lecture notes. I NEVER choose topic to study or attempt any past year papers, cause i find that we shouldn't study for the sake of passing or get good grades. We should be studying to understand and apply the module to our life. BUT I WAS WRONG! Maybe because im not the one paying for the school fees or the paper can easy get a pass. But not for University level..

Currently, I'm printing past years papers to do, reading study guides, lecture notes from local and oversea lecturers. Personally, i think its too late doing them now. Although Im glad that i woke up and started revising them, minimizing the undesirable results.

In fact i start to enjoy the serenity of the TP Library Level 5! The lifestyle of studying whole day in library, then head for training in the evening... Praying hard that my 4 months of holiday will not disrupt this 'good' habit.
