Drunk and hangover experience..

I would say this is the first time that i got so drunk, although i didn't vomit. A funny moment of me being drunk during a game of Dai De is throwing out a colour of 6 cards.. haha!

First time i remember i got 'high' form alcohol is also the first time i went clubbing at ZOUK. Laughing and giggling at any small little things, the whole worlds seems to be spinning, legs doesnt seems to be listening to command and jellified.

Riding back home in a half sober state is really very tedious. Got to constantly talk to myself and focus far away. Checking out blind spots and looking down on the road will make me more giddy and loss sense of orientation..

The hangover feeling this morning is the most annoying part.. Walking seems to be different from usual, cant seems to exert any strength into it, not to mention attending Wing Comd's Date. Sitting in my dad's taxi is worse than being on a boat. A small turn or little bump will make me feel giddy and nausea, the whole journey is damn uncomfortable

Went for the training but was late by 10mins. In the end, i just help them to take timing for the 6x400m interval timings. Lucky my throat hurts form the drinking, making my voice sounds sick, making a good excuse to skip the training.

Journey to back home is the worse 1hr bus ride i every had.. Almost vomited! Forcing myself to sleep in order not to think too much.. Stomach have lots of fluid and gases, trying to force themselves out through my mouth.. argh! disgusting feeling! Empty stomach also makes me feel uncomfortable..

Finally felt better in the afternoon after a good nap. Jog to Bedok to collect my DEAN bike, will be posting her up later with pictures..

Yuping's 21st Bday!

Just few hours before is my god grand daughter bday! Was really excited to go for her celebration. Did some BBQing of chicken wings, pork chop and prawns. As its was a 21st Bday, buffet is the most common way of serving the guest, therefore i dun need to BBQ all the way.

Meet up with most of my sec sch friends, most of them have position in university already... seems like I'm the few who are left behind. Got to work hard into a Uni! As usually, there will be cake cutting and photo taking of different social groups of hers.

Played Big Two (Dai De) to pass most of the time, inevitable there will be drinking of liquor as i brought 1 bottle a Chivas (12 yrs). Every game i almost drank 1/2 a plastic cup of Chivas w/o mix. In the end i estimated that i drank about 1/2 a bottle of Chivas..

Riding home half sober is really a very dangerous but adventurous experience. Will share more of the thoughts when I'm more sober.. GTG sleep now as i still have date with Wing Comd tml at Yio Chu Kang... Hope that i can wake up!

Deity bar & stem. Thomas Seatpost

Wahaha finally the Deity bar stem have landed on my hands! Really pestered the seller for the past few days for him not to sell them away before i book out. Immediately today i booked out, i hopped onto a cab and rush straight to his place, Jurong East (lucky my camp is at boon lay).

Getting the Thomson seatpost is really pushing my privilege as an cadet. Imagine ran to the guards house when its almost lights off timing also i shouldn't be wondering around especially near the guard house area.

What left now for my bike is mainly a fork, which i already had an idea where to get it. Crank which I'm still quite bothered whether to just anyhow get a black crank or a high end street crank. Headset is another headache, since my bike is not really that low end, i wondering whether should i get a chris king headset to increase the poser value or just a normal black colour headset

Recently found out that my tires on my Alex DX32 cant fit my frame as the tires are to wide. Sold them off cheap (quite wear off liao actually) and the cogset is actually 8spd. Means that i had to hunt for them in the market.

Brunei thoughts: weak and wicked side

Since sec sch, my CCA teacher had told me that hardship with show one's true character and personality. One good way is to go for trips which take you out from your comfort zone. Had expected to see people showing their true self during the JCC.

Out for the 3 navex, navex 2 is the most tedious. Why? Imagine after 3 days of navex 1, shag out to obtain just a passing mark. If navex 1 is to shag us out, then navex 2 is to disintegrate us! Having to scale 3 high hills (including the X no. of hidden knolls) within 2 days and meeting the 1500 H hour just to pass.

During the day, you can see those who are tiring, dragging their legs behind and taking any opportunity to rest. Its quite understandable for this behaviour. The ugly side of us took over when sky darken and we started to harbour. Everyone wanna get into their minimum comfort zone, do nothing.

Harbouring may seems to be the easiest, but still takes the effort of the whole team. Clearing of the dead fall and vegetation, collecting of fire wood and setting up of shelter, 7 people would be struggling to get all these done consecutively. One of my team mate known for his knee injury, always require constant 'reminder' in order for him to move his ass. Once things are done, he will just sit at his position (usually near the fire place) and not move a inch. Will shows his frustrated face when asked to move and grumble that we 'should have' done this and that.

Trying hard to hold my nerves together, calm myself and with patience explaining what our team team gonna do in this tough situation. In fact i offered to help him warm up his rations, on the other hand ask him to share 'some' of his ration with me as sweeteners.. haha!

Throughout the whole 9 days, my IC, Afandi and I are always in the same team. Been thought all the thick and thin together, carrying the signal sets and group equipments, even slept on the same A-frame shelter for 3 days. There is one night during the navex 2, he told me that he wanna give up due to a fall on his ribs, to me it just a reason that he had gave in to the tough situation. Climbing up Mt Biang alone i think had took away almost all of his burning enthusiasm. However, a simple encouragement from our wing comd had motivated he to continue with his survival phase, and lastly made it to the camp first.

Finally to say about myself during the JCC. As mention in previous post that I'm disappointed that i threw my temper on my injured team mate. I known that a person's true character or should i say 'survival instinct' is ugly. I never like to see myself behaving this way. Hence always calm myself down before giving any comment, use positive and optimistic words. Being a Mr Nice Guy in such environment is very challenging. Had felt that i had a good reputation in the Wing for "Mr Nice Guy' don't wish to have this image shattered due to factors which i can influence e.g fatigue. Always telling myself that i can lose to everyone but not my wicked side.

JCC upon my chest! | Pro Term: Week 16-18

Spent 16 days in Brunei and going through the JCC is really an unforgettable experience for me.

Here is a small breakdown of the 16days.
Day 1: Settle in-processing admin
Day 2-3: Infantry training, PBC and CWO (appointed as PC)
Day 4-5: Hand over to JCC instructors, prepare for JCC and revision on lessons
Day 6-14: Jungle Confidence Course
Day 15: Settle out-processing admin
Day 16: Educational Tour and back to S'pore

Now a breakdown of the 9 days JCC
Phase 1: Navex 1, 36 daylight hours
Phase 2: Navex 2, 24 daylight hours
Phase 3: Survival, 3D/2N
Phase 4: Navex 3, 12 daylight hours
*noticed that i used daylight hours. In Brunei after 6pm, you cant even see your 5 fingers not to say navigate in the evening.

JCC's Survival Creed

For one to survive,

One must die.

Survivor's own survival takes precedence

over all humanitarian principles,

but there must be no suffering.

Before the start of JCC, we got info on Alpha wing not doing that well for their JCC. In the end only 7 in the entire wing got the JCC badge. A shocking news to us and also a message to us not to underestimate the jungle of Brunei. Initially i felt that JCC is a sure-get badge based on Bravo's performance. However, Alpha's performance really changed my mindset. In the end only 39 out of 59 people in our wing were entitled to this hard-earned badge (really 'for one to survive, one must die').

The 3 navexs in JCC almost broke me down. In fact im disappointed in myself for losing my temper on a team mate who suffered injury during his first navex. Eventually my team got 15/25.

I failed my 2nd navex, getting only 3/20. The main factor is because my team chose a different trail apart from the rest. However i didn't regret making that choice. Many team and some of my team mate keep saying we "SHOULD HAVE" followed them etc... That's the thing, when there is problem SHOULD HAVE would often being heard.

Another highlight of the 2nd navex is the Mt Biang, known for it steepness, easy up but difficult down terrain.

3D2N of survival is not that difficult one of the reason is Alpha just went in 1 week before us. Most of the material and structures are still available for us to savage. Every day is wet and muddy. My area is always flooded to ankle or sometimes to calf level, imagine flooded up my just dug latrine which is of boot's length and depth.

Last night of the survival is the skinning of quail. Separating the head of the quail from its body is not as hard as i thought. Scene of the headless quail struggling with its remaining neck is quite unsightly.

Finally the last navex. All my instructors say it is possible to score full marks as the route back to camp is obvious and easy. Well my team got in first, also full score, allowing me to pass the JCC by just 0.5 marks.

Will share more thoughts on the trips in the near future.
