I'm also using this sheet to record my daily expenses. With simple heading, date, item/event and the amount spend. Had started this habit during March when I'm too damn bored with my 4 months holiday. Unknowing its December already, conducted this assignment for like 10 months! Now i can easily set my budget for transport, each meal and bills for my current lifestyle.
Had set aside the heading "investment" which is the amount i spent on my projects. As the figures can fluctuate way beyond my other entries. However, start to feel the need to include Cash Inflow. I will more or less be completed as a cash flow statement. Entries will mainly be allowance and sales proceeds from my projects. With them, i can judge whether I'm spending within my means, also measure the amount of cash inflow. Hopefully i can get some interesting data pattern.
I'm figuring how i can include into my current spreadsheet and make it user friendly when I'm using it through my mobile phone. With the screen size of 2" by 1.5", its not pleasant to navigate if the list of entries gets too long for just 1 day.
Finally i get to the end of my financial reporting. With new format for me to follow next year, i only hope it can gel in well with the old entries. Not sure is it too much or normal for a person to monitor his finance status so closely. But i hope with the time i have as a student, i can use it to come out with a good spending budget before i enter the working life.

Financial Reporting AY 2009: Ledger and Journal
Financial Reporting AY 2009: Profit & Loss
This sheet is use to monitor my P&L for all my projects. Had started doing it almost the same time i started with my Balance Sheet. But till now, little changes have been made it to as compared as my B/S. For P&L, its very much simple, Selling Price minus Cost Price minus any expenses incurred, it gives you Profit.
I added in "Margin" through the years, to see how the project fare compared to others of its same value. Another add on is "Sold To", its more like profiling. As i post my ads in many places, knowing who and where i made my sales to is important. I can then put more focus that that area, like refreshing my ads there more often or aware of how much i quoted and earned from the same guy before. But its a pretty small market to play around.
For year 2009, i further segmented my entries for P&L into Oakley, Bike Project and Any Other Items. Oakley is obvious. Bike project only records full bike sales. While Any Other Items could be the bike parts, misc items and fees if i managed to earned from helping a friend to get something online.
I noticed i lacked something very important for P&L, the DATE!! Currently I'm looking at a long list of entries, but they are all spread across 5 years! Hence i decided to add in actual date of transaction, so to track the transactions i made during a period of time.
Till now, i had a total of 17 bikes which i built and sold off. Including the loss of my 2 bikes, Cannondale M500 and DEAN, the total loss i had from all the bikes is 1k+. Keeping at a loss 4% of the total bike values. The $1000+ spread over 5 years, averaging 200-300 per year is an acceptable expense/deprecation. However no champagne popping, as the figures yet to include the Custom Ti frame and OEM carbon bike which can easily set off the 4% to maybe 10%?
2010, i shall focus more on my Oakley entries. As i will put in more effort on them. Also with the use of my credit cards, serving as debt to finance and extend the payment. It will be interesting to apply the accounting ratios, ROI, ROE and ROA and compare them.
Need to come out with a standard format to follow and record the entries. Currently thinking what the headings should be.
Financial Reporting AY 2009: Balance Sheet
This is not a formal balance sheet, we see from accounting standards. This basically touches on the overall picture of my financial status, a sum up of the small entries i had in the month.
A look back into my past entries. Pretty proud of myself for recording them for 5 years (since 2005)!! Back then, my accounting heading only consist of
| Date | Cash in Bank ($) | Cash on Hand ($) | Overall | Pay ($) | Remark |
Now i had
| Date | Cash(Bank) | Cash(Hand) | Saving | Liability | Total | Available | Overall | Amt | Pay | Remark |
Hoping to add in the money i made from my 'projects', maybe "Earnings", so to give a clearer picture of my Finance Status.
2010 Races and Training Plan
Read 2009 Races and Training Programme
A recap of my last year's races. Noticed that i had followed my plan pretty closely. Although i missed out Singapore Bay Run, but it is necessary for me to recuperate from Desaru HIM and for Standard Chartered. Had improvement for my Sundown Marathon with a timing of 4:04hrs and Standard Chartered at 3:44hrs. My race for year 2010 will focus more on run events and Long Dist Triathlon races will be more for a getaway from the boring training regime of run.
Singapore Biathlon: (March): 1.5k(S) 10k(R) *Signed up already
Desaru Long-Dist Triathlon: (August): 1.9k(S) 90k(B) 21k(R)
Singapore Bay Run: (August): 21k(R)
Standard Chartered Marathon 2010: (Dec): 42k(R)
Nothing much changes as compared to last year, took out Sundown and OSIM. I will not be running Sundown despite the announcement of change in route. As for OSIM, for obvious reasons, the race fee is sky high and race course is way too crowded. Unless i can get full subsidize from SIM, which is highly unlikely.
Didn't planned to do Singapore Biathlon this year, due to increase in price. Since SIM is able to subsidize us, so went on signing up. This may be one of the last races i will race under the name of SIM. Hope i can contribute by showing my face for the race, wearing SIM attire. So at least the team wont look small. haha!
Desaru HIM. This race made me walked for almost 10km! Will work more on my base training and make sure i don't repeat the same mistake.
Would like to use AHM as a time trial for Standard Chartered. Should be aiming for 1:40 if i wanna run a 3:30 for the marathon. But looking as the small gap between Desaru and AHM, means i cant screw up during Desaru.
Standard Chartered Marathon. Need to learn from last year's training mistake, little track workout and not enough long runs. Will have to train religiously this time. Don't think i have much time to train for a PB marathon in the future.

Christmas 2009
One first celebrated X'mas ever since i enter Poly. X'mas since then are either busy working or stuck in camp. While this year, I decided not to work and go for as many gathering as possible. If I'm not wrong, a record breaking 5 gatherings!!
18th Dec: TP Tri Team gathering at Coach Pekya's place.
Food are sufficient, enough to fill up my stomach. We had sandwiches, pizzas, fried and grilled chicken. I'm surprise with myself that i even had salad!! Was so hungry that i over ate at the start, didn't really have the appetite to eat Wilson's home-made cheese cake or tiramisu. Had a few drinks with Arnon's concoction and some terrible ones from me. Of course not to missed out Charles entertainment of getting people to drink.
Left at 11 plus pm.
19th Dec: CDO officers gathering
One of the most successful gathering we held so far. Total strength of 19, Present strength of 16. Venue is the Sakura at Dhoby Ghaut. Had some problem trying to link up, maybe because all never bring coloured flag or torch. The area is quite new, at least to me. I'm not a city dweller.
It is also one of the longest meal i had. Stayed there throughout the operating hours! We left around 9 plus 10? Walked around the area and decided to leave early, while the rest decided to go for a drink. Good catchup with the rest. Most probably gather back together again the next ICT.
25th Dec: Family gathering.
My family members are not those who really celebrate Christmas. But this year, my uncle decided to hold one just for gather of family members. Another makan session.. curry chicken, BBQ chicken wings, bee hoon, satay, otah.. eat-till-i-siao session!! White flag came out within 1 hour. Never pace myself again... Had another gathering to rush in the evening. So left my uncle's place at 7plus.
25th Dec: James aka BodyKong party/gathering
Reached there at 8plus, quite a good timing as the crowd and my group of friends are there already. Settled down quite fast, never attack the buffet line as stomach is still fighting the food i had previously.
This gathering is a open invitation to all James and his family friends. Main bulk of the people there are from his Church. However, our army group is not losing, holding up at least 2 tables and half of his accompany time. Left there pretty early, as i decided to get a ride home from my dad while fetching my siblings back from my uncle's place.
26th Dec: TP Tri Team Year (2006-2008 batch)
Contra to all above gathering. This is a drinking sessions, with enough food to hold back the effects of alcohol. Stomach bloated due to over drinking instead of over eating. Imagine you need to drink plain water to dilute the amount of alcohol we drink, maybe at a ratio of 1:5?
Reached there around 9plus, stayed till 3plus am. Heavily drinking at around 10pm. Arnon's place is like a club house to me. Like his wall paper theme, mixed of dark grey and reflective silver. Always like to visit people house see their home theme and furniture arrangement. Very long, never see Charles, also never see him 'high' from alcohol before. Good to see him around.
Cycled home after Wilson shake me up from my nap. Reach home and on my bed at 4am!
Would say that this is one of the most happening Festive Season i had after all these years. Truly a post worth archiving down these memories.
Merry X'Mas (belated)
