For Honour and Glory: Between the best and the rest of SAF

After 4 months of training under the best combat unit, commando, I embarked into a totally different phase of my NS life, the officer course.

Here are some of the difference i found during these 3 weeks in OCS.

1. The head dress: The most distinctive difference we had from the infantry is the red beret. Making us stand out from the platoon, whenever we fall in. Beside the beret, we are able to wear our jungle hat during our Nav Ex. and Mission. Unlike infantry mates, they had to suffer wearing helmet for such outdoor activities, while jockey cap for their admin. HELMET CAN REALLY MAKE PEOPLE STUPID DURING NAV EX AND MISSION!

2. Planning of programme: This part does not imply to the whole infantry. However it does show how screw up the planning of programme can be for some infantry officers. For examples, having a mission ex. the day before our IPPT test. Schedule is always so pack yet, book out timing is always H+3hrs. Equipment cleaning is necessary for everyday, even thought you didn't use them.

3. Standardisation: In OCS, everything have to be standardised, from items in your field pack to the arrangement of your clothing in your cabinet. Have you ever see people tape their tools onto their toolbar for field pack inspection? Well in my platoon this is what we have to do.

Come to this point, i find that i got too much to type for this post, shall end the post now.

Tired,
C Cube
