Started studying in SIM Since July for my Bridging in Economics and Mathematics. Passed them with a B+ for Maths while C for Econs.. Currently taking 4 modules for this curriculum. Each module are 3hrs long incorporated with tutorials and lectures (much depending on how your lecturer want to utilize the 3 hrs).
Before i go more into my modules, maybe i should briefly talk about the degree structure itself. My degree, Bsc Banking and Finance consist of 12 modules ONLY! yes 12 only, compared to what local unis having an average of 20+, even 30! Local uni is avg 5-6 modules per SEM (half a year) for 3 yrs? Ya~ Not so value added for SIM..
Out of the 12 modules, 5 are Foundation units or Core units a more familiar term used in TP. Follow by 7 Modules which are Further units. So a standard 3yr route makes sense if you are taking 4 modules per year. More info click here
Well some might ask, why not take 6 modules per year which is the maximum load which can take? Its strongly discourage by our lecturers as our exam is held annually, 6 modules for the exam over a short exam period means high possibility occurrence of 2 modules a day. Not worth risking retaking the paper
Some might continue saying that 2 modules a day isnt what some of us experience in Poly? ok la! you good la! go ahead with 6 then!!
Ok so norm is 4 modules a year. 3hrs per module. Slots are either 830am, 12noon or 330pm. Straight forward, you get to plan the timetable (first come first serve). Staying in the East, travelling to West is a hassle. 1hr 30mins per trip, 3hrs double trip = 1 lecture! $4 per trip, $8, 2 trips = 1 freaking mega meal!
So passing my Bridging would means exempted for 4 modules which are Stats+Maths (1 unit), Intro to Econs (1 unit), Intro To Business Management (1 unit) and 1 random unit. This random unit is abit hard to describe. Im now rushing to finish this up, to go to my grandma place. So not going into details
So i had planned my timetable to fully maximise my time travelling down. 2 days per week, starting from 830am to 1130, half hour break then another 3hrs lecture.. So i can leave SIM at 3pm, reach East by 4plus.. That's why i look so free.. As my objective is to fully utilize travel time to West therefore 2 modules per day over 2 days, makes most sense.
So how will my whole year look like?
Curriculum start on Aug, ends at End Feb (21 weeks)
